Assistant Language Teacher

　I have been working on the another job supporting ALTs since last year. It's really interesting to do this new job with ALTs as well as my main job, teaching English for both elementary and junior high school students.

　Assistant Language Teacher is called ALT ,as all you know, they are from all over the world such as UK,Ireland,USA, South Africa,Australia, Canada,Phillipines and so on. Most of them are native speakers and very nice though, there are several Philippine ALTs among them I responsible for.

　When I visited each elementary and junior high school in the town and talked with the headmaster and English teachers, they praised "The Philippine teacher is wonderful". I was so glad to hear that but why? I think there are two reasons.

　First, they study English as an official language in their country,Philippines. They have learned each subject such as math, science, social studies using English at school. After graduating college, they can speak and use English fluently. That's why many philippines go abroad to study, One of my friends once studied at Oxford in UK and came to Japan as an ALT and he is going to U.S.A to study MBA very near future.

　Second, they are friendly and sincerely. Most of them are very religious and warm hearted. They can make a good relationship with not only the students but also teachers. I 've ever heard that Phillipine nurses are very popular in the world.

　I hope all ALTs can teach good standard English and introduce their own culture at school. I think it would be marvelous for all the students and teachers to have a communication with ALTs. I'm sure they will make English education in Japan much better.

　On April 7th, most of schools starts. Hope they'll do their best and enjoy teaching English at school !

Hi MOKO I didn’t realize this article. I didn’t know that there are Philippine ALTs. And I’m interesting in them. I’d like to learn by them and make friends with them. Your work is very interesting! And I envy you a little.(^_^)	norako 2008/04/20 16:03
Hi norako, Good to see you again. ALTs are from all over the world. Not only the western countries but also from Asia or Africa. They speak good English but each English is different. It's so called " World Englishes". Have you ever heard this word?	MOKO 2008/04/20 19:12
